Vote Chris Gray for HD61 on June 2, 2026
I will stand up for every Montanan's right to access their health care. It is a legal right. When you have worked hard to pay for health insurance all your working life, that creates an enforceable promise.
Private insurance and government sponsored programs alike have been earned through our work and premium contributions, our employers payments based on our work, and through payroll taxes paid by us and our employers.
When coverages decrease, copays increase or you no longer have access to your long-time health care providers it's a sign that either a big insurance company or the government is breaking their promises to you.
I will be watching out for policies that make it easier for those promises to be broken and do my best to fight to defeat them.
Housing costs in Bozeman are the highest in the State of Montana. Development by out of state interests has created this problem. State and local governments were overrun and overwhelmed and have left us paying more than our share of the burden for development.
Lowering property taxes means less monthly housing payment. In Helena I will work with anyone who in good faith wants to make outside development pay their fair share including for past costs that were dropped in our lap and are ultimately paid in our property taxes.
State and local processes create increased costs to any real estate development. Repetition and overlap run rampant. I will support any requirement to decrease process for process sake to help lower housing costs.
Ultimately, an increase in housing supply will be the only way to bring costs down. Models on how to do this in places such as Austin, Texas can be used in Bozeman, and as a legislator I wont mind creating incentives for cities here to use the tools developed there.
Education decisions belong with Montanans. Montana parents, administrators, teachers, and local school boards are the best decision makers.
Montana’s public universities, colleges and schools have served our communities for generations. Today outside forces are at work towards their agendas. They’re importing blueprints designed to redirect your tax dollars away from public schools and to push ideas that don’t match local values.
When national organizations send lobbyists to Helena, I’ll be paying close attention and calling it out. These aren’t Montana ideas.
Proper funding of teachers, paraprofessional and support staff and the people who touch the lives of Montana students will always be a priority for me.
Any of us are one court ruling away from drastically changing our lives…
The independence of our courts protects us from government overreach. Police officers, banks, city and county government, banks and others with power over ourselves and property are held in check by our elected judges. As we've seen so many times lately, when legislators pass laws that blatantly violate our Constitution and a court tells them that, they get mad and lash out at the judges and their decision making powers that protect us.
In the 2025 Montana legislature proposed at least 27 bills that attacked the independence of the judicial branch. One bill tried to create a new court, appointed by the governor, to decide all constitutional issues. Several other bills attempt to make the judicial process political by turning judicial elections partisan.
Another is a new law that allows political parties to directly donate to judicial races, which is why you'll be seeing so many mailers for the upcoming Supreme Court race. I don't know about you, but if I'm in a car wreck I don’t want to know that the judge is an R or a D. I want to know if she or he will look at the facts of the situation and apply the law to make the other party pay.
Many of the failed efforts will come back in 2027. Who knows what unique new tricks will be proposed. I have been an attorney for over 35 years and know how important an independent judicial branch is. I will not let these attempts get a foothold and let our rights get further diluted.
